I've been teaching online for 4 years now after a 20 year face to face career. I can honestly say that online teaching can be very rewarding, and it gives me a huge amount of freedom. It is also a way to work with what I love from home or somewhere else. I would say that it is a fantastic mix of:
technology, knowledge and students.
When teaching online with OTS, I can still follow a schedule and direct the learning even if I am working for an online English school.
In addition to all these points, English learning is a quickly growing segment worldwide meaning that the experience of teaching English online can be a great addition to my resume.

Teaching online can be really fun and rewarding. You can offer support and guidance to students who have the real desire to develop their English skills, and besides, you have the chance to do what you love.
I have been working for OTS, as a bilingual teacher English/Portuguese, for over two years now, and I have never had the same class twice.
Every time is a totally different new experience.
You get to teach people of different ages and backgrounds, and you also learn new things from each one of them.

I’ve always dreamt of traveling around the world. I wanted to meet new people, visit all sorts of places and learn about different cultures. The problem is that money doesn’t grow on trees, so I’d have to work a lot to be able to afford that. But then I thought, “What if I work while traveling?” That was when I discovered the world of teaching English. It gave me an opportunity to combine business with pleasure. Soon after I started I saw another opportunity: teaching online, which would give me even more flexibility to work from pretty much wherever I wanted. So I started looking for ways to do so until I finally found something. Now, after one year of working online, I can say I've learned a lot about the benefits of using technology towards teaching and learning. From the teacher's perspective, the ability to work from the comfort of your home is priceless; it's freedom. A laptop, a camera, a microphone, a stable internet connection, and a big smile; that's all I need. And I already have all that.
From the student's perspective, things get a bit more interesting. There are two things that I've repeatedly heard from my students since I started teaching online. The first is that they finally had the time to study English. Before getting into the online courses, several of them would have to juggle a full daily workload with spending time with their families, taking some time to rest and also wasting time on traffic from work to home, from home to their English school, and vice versa. Now they can just go home and be near their loved ones and study. No more time and energy lost on going to a physical school. It may sound something small to some of us, but it matters a lot to them.
The second - and maybe most important in the learning process - thing is about the possibility of everyday practice. Normally they would have a one-and-a-half-hour class once or twice a week and that was it. That would be all the English practice they'd have that week. Now they can enter the platforms every single day and access a huge variety of material and tools, as well as attend daily group and private classes. And all that can be done from their homes after their kids went to bed. Or from their workplace at lunchtime. Or maybe on their phones on a beach while on vacation. I've even had a class with a student on a bus while traveling from a city to another. It also gives them flexibility.
In other words, from my short experience so far, teaching and learning English online increases accessibility and flexibility and improves time management and productivity for the students, gives everybody involved a bigger sense of freedom and helps connect people that maybe otherwise would never have met each other.

Teaching online has been a tremendous experience for me and I did not imagine this change could have such a drastic change in my life.
I worked in a bilingual school for a long time in the past in Brazil and what I always appreciated was the eye-to-eye contact with my pupils. I always defended the genuine idea that this human contact and this " sensibility " as a teacher has a profound impact on the learning process.
And yes, it does. I haven't changed my mind. I have actually enhanced my way of thinking. If on one hand, we, as a teacher, are able to provoke a significant change in someone's life, when working online we don't have barriers of space. We can teach students who live in different countries and from different backgrounds. Online teachings opens up a world of possibilities.
However, I only realized this after a while because at the very beginning, I was teaching at a bilingual school and, at night and on the weekends, I was teaching online. Nowadays, I am a full time online teacher and I have been learning so many things. Probably the most remarkable one is that we have a distinguished role for this change in someone's life, as I mentioned before. We can be the bridge for this " dream " for those students who live very far away and never ever thought about the possibility of learning English.
Thus, from my humble side, what I can confirm that there are only benefits in teaching online. Of course, please, take into account that it is mandatory the commitment, self-organization and good internet. On the other side, the benefits are wider. The most powerful one is eliminating the cost and stress of a commute, besides those ones mentioned above. Well, I can confess that I am profoundly satisfied with the support that I've gotten from my OTS team since the very beginning. I am always ready with a big smile as soon as I have my cameras on and ready to let a long lasting impression on my students.
